During girl talk about little hassles like pimples... these unwelcome guests that catch us off guard in adulthood when we thought their time was up, Roya Eddé and Gaëlle Khoury listened to their friends and looked to nature to create their own skincare solution, Minui.
‘It was during one of our usual 2a3dets among friends, that we found inspiration for our skin care products.’ Minui is about that glow of self-confidence that we regain when our skin is healed from glitches like pimples, dehydration, irritation or oily skin. They realized those same inhibiting issues were common among their friends. The brand was launched a couple months ago with a first line of facial serums, made with natural essential oils adapted for different functions and skin types; Ageless, Ultra De Puff, Luminescence, Oil Control and Lavender Lift. Roya tells us she is hooked on the Luminescence blend; jojoba, neroli and vitamin E, which is ‘ultra-hydrating and glowing so you won’t need much make-up which is also our objective’. Gaëlle chose the Oil Control serum for her skin. She explains ‘jojoba is anti-inflammatory, tea tree is antiseptic, lemon oil is anti-microbe & grapefruit has anti-bacterial properties and also helps heal acne scars.’ The visual identity of Minui was designed by Roya to reflect their vision; natural gradient nuances of sea blue and green ‘the color of new beginnings,’ night tonalities with a futuristic vibe for a foot into the future ‘where we see beauty being more natural’ the entrepreneurs tell us. ‘We want to encourage people to start using natural products, move away from chemicals. There are also other benefits to essential oils, they can be relaxing, smell delicious and with the stress we live in especially in Lebanon, we want to create a soothing brand, a wellbeing companion.’ Each serum is thought for the skin, but is also a sensory experience with added benefits from each essential oil for pampering end-of-day moments.
The idea emerged back in 2019, the two friends wanted to start a project together. Gaëlle was a pre-med student, Roya was pursuing a degree in architecture. They were looking for a common ground. At the time they were experiencing skin issues and so were their friends, so they thought about starting their skincare line. They realized they were both passionate about natural scents, and could each bring her strengths to the table to create a natural brand that blends beauty and wellbeing. Over three years they did research, talked to dermatologists and ran a lot of tests. They source their high-quality raw materials across Italy, Spain, France and Canada, and create compositions in Lebanon where they work in a laboratory with an expert team of pharmacists and dermatologists. When we ask about the Ageless solution composed of apricot, true lavender, sweet orange and coconut fractionated, Gaëlle tells us ‘it’s a micro lifting, firming formula which reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine line, the oils are also nourishing and have antiseptic properties. We use vegetable oil to mix the ingredients together such as coconut fractionated to not dilute with anything chemical.’ The ladies spent two months of sleepless nights to come up with the name; ‘Minui fits because essential oils and vegetable oils should be applied at night, not during the day to not be exposed to sun rays.’ Another 2a3de between friends inspired their upcoming line of products; hair oils that will be fortifying, nourishing, thickening…, ‘what our friends talk about; complaining about breakage, wanting more volume… they will also be based on essential oils and vegetable oils.’ The duo is now in the product creation phase, exploring flora to take care of our beauty with serums rich in nature’s restorative resources.
